FOR INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS:

If you are new to Ontario, you can find answers to common questions about your new home on Settlement.org

The Government of Ontario, Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration describes the pathway to professional registration in career maps for internationally trained professionals .

Qualified internationally trained individuals can get help moving quickly into the labour market in Ontario by attending bridge training programs.

To understand Ontario’s regulatory process a little better, visit the Online Orientation to Regulation of Professions in Ontario .

To get help navigating the licensing, certification and regulatory process of Ontario’s regulated health professions go to HealthForceOntario Access Centre.

Services and supports for internationally educated nurses in Ontario are available at CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses.

Still under development, this site will be a resource for internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs) to find their way into the Canadian workplace.


FOR EMPLOYERS:

 HealthForceOntario provides services and resources available to assist employers in recruiting and retaining highly skilled health professionals.

Learn about the surmountable challenges that practising immigrant health professionals in Canada face relative to their domestically educated counterparts: CSMLS Workforce Integration Project Report .

Gain insight into hiring and supporting internationally educated nurses in the Ontario Hospital Association’s Internationally Educated Nurses: An Employer’s Guide.

Access resources and tools to support in hiring and integrating skilled immigrants.

Provide paid internships opportunities for mid-level professionals (in non-regulated professions).

The Ontario Hospital Association identified mitigating strategies for employers to reduce the barriers to employing internationally educated health professionals (IEHPs).

 


FOR REGULATORS:

 

The Ontario Fairness Commissioner provides a description of the current landscape in theor report, A Fair Way to Go: Access to Ontario's Regulated Professions and the Need to Embrace Newcomers in the Global Economy .

Regulators looking at language proficiency requirements may want to review CSMLS’s How-to Guide on setting cut scores on language proficiency tests (download).

In recognition of the gaps that can hinder cross-cultural communication and interaction the Ontario regulators for Access Consortium put together the Managing Cultural Differences manual.
